CHANGES WITH THE SOFTWARE COLLECTION 4.x CONCERNING NEXTVIEW®4

Version 4.5 of the Software Collection from BMC Messsysteme GmbH has been released in November 2011 replacing all previous versions. This includes the latest version of NextView®4, the software for data acquisition and processing. Especially if changing from NextView®/NT to NextView®4 (in the following: NV4 and NVNT), please note the following information.

SOLUTION

• NVNT and NV4 use different driver versions (same applies to the driver package NVNT-DP and NV4-DP for non-bmcm hardware) for the installed DAQ systems. That means, both versions should only be operated on the same PC if using NV4-Analysis or LAN network DAQ systems as they do not need a driver installation.

• Projects (*.nvp), configurations files (*.nvc), and signals (*.lfx), created with NVNT, can be used in NV4 without qualification. However, as soon as projects and configuration files are saved in NV4, they cannot be opened in NVNT anymore. This does not apply to signals which were saved in NV4 with NVNT 3.4 file format (export).

• The operating systems Windows® 95/98/Me/SE and NT are not supported by NV4 anymore, Windows® 2000 only through version 4.2. The latest version 4.5 can be installed on Windows® 7/XP.

• NV4.5 requires the licensing of the software. The relevant functionality of the program version used (Pro, Lite, Analysis) is unlocked with a license key that can be requested via e-mail or the bmcm website by entering the serial number when first starting the program.

• A free 30-day trial is provided from version 4.4 on featuring all functions of a Professional version. If a software version is bought, all projects, signal files, and configurations can still be used. Otherwise, the trial version will be reduced to basic functions 30 days after requesting the license key being equivalent to the former NV4 Live! version. To operate and test the hardware, the trial version is included when purchasing a bmcm DAQ system or can be downloaded from the website.

• In addition to the Standalone version of NV4 (Demo, Live!, Lite, Pro, Analysis), a Client/Server version is available for version 4.2. The differences of these versions can be downloaded as PDF (34kB). Instead of STR-BMCSAD Client, the add-on product NV4 Client API for NV4 Client/Server is available. The product NVNT-WORKM is omitted.

• The following DAQ systems can only be operated with software version 4.x: PCI-BASE1000, MCAN, MAD16a, USB-AD, USB-PIO, iM-AD25a (operable with NVNT if installed as iM-AD25 after changing the firmware version to max. v.1.1 Build 117 only with ±5V measuring range). The PCI-BASEII, PCI-PIO, PCIe-BASE, the modules MAD12b/16b, MDA16-2i, MDA-4i/-8i, and the USB-AD12f, USB-AD16f are supported from version 4.4 on, the LAN-AD16f, AMS42-LAN16f, AMS84-LAN16f, and MADDA16, MADDA16n modules from version 4.5.

• ISA measurement cards and the PCI-BASE50 can only be used up to version 4.2 of the "Software Collection".

• DAQ systems, not featuring an own micro-processor, scan asynchronously now. That means the time of the PC is used as a time reference for the scan. The sampling period of asynchronous devices is preset and not influenced by the setting of the scan frequency in NV4. In NV4, the sample period defines the storage frequency (how often the measuring values are written into the signal file).
  The advantage is that the sample period in NV4 does not depend on the slowest device. A fast device (e.g. meM-ADfo), operated with a slow one, can tap its full potential. If using two asynchronous devices, a scan cannot diverge anymore in time.
  The asynchronous measurement systems are the following devices: meM-AD/meM-ADDA/meM-INC/meM-PIO, USB-AD/USB-PIO, PC20TR, PIO24II/PIO48II and ADAM modules (to be installed with driver package NV4-DP).

• The ActiveX Control BMCSAD was replaced by the LibadX. Programs, created with BMCSAD and only concerning the file interface, can still be used. Programming in NV4 is done with NV4-Script.

STATUS

The update to the latest version 4.5 is strongly recommended unless if using ISA measuring cards, the PCI-BASE50, NV4 Client/Server, or if installing under Windows® 95/98/Me/SE/2000/NT.
